Instead, I thought to use the inside portions created by the trio window die designed to coordinate with the shaker pouches. However, I have run out of the shaker pouches that came with this kit and frankly didn’t have the energy at the time to assemble a whole shaker card. Recently, I have been playing around more and more with shaker cards and I’m really starting to enjoy them. Whilst the kit is no longer available, the individual products can still be purchased and make great additions to your craft stash. I created this card with some of the leftover supplies from the February 2020 Simon Says Stamp card kit. It’s nothing super creative or fancy but it reminded me of the purpose cardmaking plays in my life. This was a quick card I made one evening after work when I needed something to calm my thoughts before winding down for bed. The theme for May 2020 is wedding/love and I decided to share the card I created for this month’s Mail Call. She has all the details over on her blog. It’s called Mail Call and you have the option of either having your card mailed back to you after the video or forwarded to a worthy cause. They are filled with so many different techniques and styles – you are bound to find something that interests you. These videos are also a great tool to turn to when you need inspiration. At the end of the month she has a fun video where she shows all the cards she received and highlights some of her favourites. She recently restarted an old card challenge/collection drive she previously ran back in 2013 to 2016.Įach month has a theme and anyone can send her a card that is inspired by that month’s theme. Kristina Werner is one of my most inspiring cardmakers and I always learn something new from her videos. Today, I’m sharing one of my favourite crafty challenges to turn to when I need some focus and inspiration. It can easily then flow into an hour or two of peaceful crafting! Kristina Werner’s Mail Call Usually, by the end of this card, my mind is relaxed and creativity starts to come more easily. They narrow your focus to a specific brief for a single card. In circumstances like this, I have found card drives and card challenges to be a great help. I want to craft but can’t seem to nail down a starting point. I often find that when my mind is in a tailspin, I know I need to sit down and focus my energy. This is also not exclusively a coronavirus problem. I want to sit down and create but find myself too overwhelmed to gather my thoughts and start. Yet, lately I have found myself feeling very uninspired. Whilst my time for crafting is becoming more limited, the little time I do have has started to play a far more important role in aiding my relaxation routine. A place where I don’t have to worry about wearing an uncomfortable mask or questioning every patient about possible COVID-19 symptoms. Now, more than ever, home is my safe space. I have come to appreciate my time at home. My experience however, has been slightly different. My husband is now working from home and definitely enjoying a more laid back working environment. This has meant lots of time at home (and for a luck few – more time for crafting). In South Africa, we have only recently started relaxing on strict lockdown measures. For others, it has meant new financial stressors or new roles and responsibilities (I’m talking to you – teacher mom!). Personally, as a doctor, it has meant increasing work pressures and feelings of burnout. As is common in these situations, we are likely all affected in unique ways depending on your individual circumstances and resources. Hope everyone is staying safe in the midst of all this COVID chaos! I want to start off with a short chat about the impact the coronavirus pandemic may be having on all of us.
